Award-winning broadcaster Zeinab Badawi presents a fresh perspective on African history, moving beyond the European colonial lens that has traditionally dominated the field. Drawing from her book An African History of Africa: From the Dawn of Humanity to Independence, she traces the continent's story from the origins of humankind through the emergence of great civilisations and empires to the dawn of independence.
After visiting over thirty African countries to speak with historians, anthropologists, archaeologists and local storytellers, Badawi offers a compelling narrative told directly through African voices and experiences. This lecture challenges conventional historical frameworks and presents Africa's rich complexity in its full depth.
