A grassroots celebration of Black writers, publishers and booksellers, this festival brings together the African and Caribbean community with opportunities to discover new voices in Black literature and learn about the global book industry. Attendees can engage with established and emerging authors, explore publishing pathways, and attend seminars covering writing, publishing and the Black book experience.
The festival combines education with culture. Seminar topics range from practical publishing guidance to celebrations of Black history, while education tracks cover AI and careers, the education of Black children, and pioneering Black scientists and inventors. Interactive STEM workshops (ages 8+) and family-friendly activities run throughout the day, including creative and critical-thinking sessions.
Live entertainment features DJ Rak playing RnB, Afrobeats and Reggae, alongside performances from Suzanna Emmanuel, African-Caribbean dance by Irie Dance Theatre, and drumming and storytelling. The festival also hosts multiple book launches and exhibitions of African-inspired art.
Proceeds support Simon Education's SEADS Project, which provides free education resources and teacher training to 38 schools across 10 African and Caribbean countries, serving over 35,000 students.
