Emmy-award-winning journalist and bestselling author Kim Ghattas joins BBC International Editor Jeremy Bowen for an in-depth conversation on Middle Eastern politics, history and conflict. Ghattas's investigative work explores the 1984 murder of Malcolm Kerr, president of the American University of Beirut, using it as a lens to examine how 1980s Beirut became the origin point for policies and actors shaping the modern Middle East. Bowen, who has reported from the region for four decades, and Ghattas—recognised as one of the world's leading Middle East experts—will discuss Lebanon's complex history, the forces that have driven regional conflict, and what lies ahead for the Middle East today.
This event marks Ghattas's first UK appearance to discuss her book The Best Kind of American.
